The Telescope making workshop is organized for the School Students of Class IX to XII. Fourteen schools from all over West Bengal have been selected to participate in this workshop. Each school sends two students and one teacher. At the workshop, talks will be given about the Universe and its components. Students will be taught about how to make a complete telescope, including mirror grinding and policing. At night, Sky watching will be carried out. At the end each school will be given a Telescope (5"diameter) and it will remain the property of the school.
The majority of the funding for the workshop is provided by National Council of Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology and the rest, especially for SC/ST candidates, is provided by Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of West Bengal. The workshop is organized by Centre for Space Physics (CSP).
The major resource person of the workshop is Mr. Rana Khan, an active member of CSP and an Assistant Master of Bidhan Nagar Govt. High School, Kolkata.
