Prof. Debarati Chatterjee is a theoretical astrophysicist with an expertise in analytical and numerical description of compact stars (particularly neutron stars) as sources of gravitational waves. Her main interests are in developing global models for compact stars informed by multidisciplinary physics, in order to improve numerical simulations and for better interpretation of multi-messenger astrophysical observations.
She is Professor at Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in Pune, India. She is a member of several international collaborations, including LIGO and LIGO-India Scientific Collaborations and serves as Chair of Education and Public Outreach (EPO) for the LIGO-India mega-science project, She is also a science communicator, active Ambassador for Gender Equity in STEM disciplines, and a leader for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion of the Gravitational Wave International Committee (GWIC).
