Center for Space Physics (CSP)

Center for Space Physics is an autonomous registered body dedicated to do high quality research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Space Physics related topics. However, it is also dedicated to do some popularization of these topics. Every year, it has regularly organized District wise Space Science Symposia (DSSS) in two different districts per year. So far, East and West Midnapur, North & South 24 Paraganas, Hoogly, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, Jalpaiguri and Coochbihar district have been covered. It also publishes Mahaviswa-O-Aami, a Bengali magazine, twice per year.

The Venus Transit event is extremely rare and CSP has organized various programs to develop the awareness of common people of WestBengal about this incident. The program includes,
(a) Training of Master Resource Person, in Which about 60 school/college teachers from all over West Bengal will be trained to further train more teachers and students,
(b) Actual viewing of the event throughout West Bengal using telescope and other accessories,
(c) Essay/Quiz competition among the school students on their experience in viewing the event.

The various research programs of CSP are funded by Department of Science and Technology (New Delhi) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).The popularization programs are also funded by various govt. agencies.
